Tuesday Pottery Classes

What have we been doing on Tuesday nights you ask? I know you've been wondering for quite some time now! Without further adieu, here is the answer . . . kick'n the wheel in our wheel-thrown pottery class.

This was our third week in our pottery class. We're having a lot of fun getting dirty and trying our darndest to create something--we're planning on making all of our dishes from here on out. The first week the instructor gave us a basic lesson of how to prepare the clay (wedging), how to place it on the wheel (basically you just throw it on), how to center the clay (nearly impossible), and then how to make a cylinder (the basis for all good pottery). That was pretty much the end of our lessons. The past two weeks we've been practicing and trying to make something, really, anything! We've finally gotten down the whole centering the clay and making a cylinder, now we're working on shaping and creating amazing pieces of art (lately everything ends up becoming a paperweight) that will surely become a permanent fixture in some art musuem or more likely our home.

Regardless of how well our pottery turns out, we have a lot of fun during the two hour class. It has been wonderful being together, learning something new and creating something with our hands. Plus, we get to play in the mud! We would recommend it to anyone. Check back often as we're sure to post more pictures of our pottery escapades and our creations. And if you're lucky you might one-day receive an "Anderson Original" paperweight.

We hope you guys draw our name for Christmas this year so we can put one of those "Anderson originals" in our living room. Glad to see how much fun you're having together.

I'm banking on being one of the siblings you guys pick, but even if I'm not, gifts are always acceptable! I will say... Percy pigs for a paperweight? Miss you guys! You're blog is super cute. How do I get one?
